After you're gone ...

The titel of this series – After you’re gone ... – refers to those painful moments in the past few years when I had to accompany many a good friend through the loss of one of their beloved. The scenes at a church, a cemetery or a crematorium where the finality of the loss became apparent. The periods at home, or at the usual encounters, with THE one conspicuously missing: everything seemingly dark, obscure, in the beginning without much hope for recovery; the blinds closed; dust settling everywhere during one’s agony; rooted to the spot in disbelief. And when the future finally creeps in with some light, it often does so without any clear previous impressions or ideas how this could look like, how it would take on any shape or form as desirable as the life one had – before you’re gone. There is no better life than now …
